Nothing new...

It's been over a month since I last posted... that's sad. In all honesty there really isn't anything exciting to write about. Out life consists of school, homework, practicum (me), programming (Mike), eating (while watching an episode of Pretender:), sleeping and that's pretty much it. Our social life has become nonexistent, but we are actually getting to go home and see family this weekend! Maybe something exciting will happen when we are down south that I can post about next week? Here's to hoping! :)

The reason I'm happy it rained today...

Yesterday was one of those marriage bonding moments that you look back in 40 years and say "Hey, honey...do you remember that time in our first apartment that you knocked off 3 glasses onto your foot and had my uncle (whose a vet) give you stitches?"

So yesterday morning we were having a peaceful Sunday morning when I heard this huge crash! I hadn't done the dishes in a while and so they were piled on the counter and Mike knocked over the glasses and one landed right on his foot and slashed it pretty good.

After getting it cleaned up he decided to go to his meetings (late) and when he got home we got some bandages to pull it together and headed off to church. He barely made it through sacrament meeting, so we headed home.

We decided the best alternative to going to the E.R. was to call my uncle and see what he would suggest. He kindly offered his services, so off we went. Mike got 4 stitches in the ball of his left foot. :) We were very fortunate to have my uncle around and also very fortunate that it wasn't worse - three glasses is a lot of glass.

Needless to say, I'm sure glad he's ok. I was a little nervous that he would want to wear flip flops (according to him it's flip flop weather unless it's rainy or snowy) and that his cut would get dirty. Hence the title...

Oh and I don't usually feed my husband whole bottles of Sierra Mist, it was just the tail end of the bottle and I wasn't too keen on dirtying anymore glasses that might end up on the counter.

And here is his little set up: laptop, chips, soda, church calling material, and pillows for elevation. What more could he ask for?

A quick picnic

The other day we got to take a quick break during one of our busy day's and go on a picnic up to 2nd dam. It was really fun to get away from the stress for an hour and enjoy some time together.
I was obsessed with wading in the water, but when I got in this happened...

It was SO cold! That's my "Please hurry and take the picture before I die" face.
This was as close as Mike got to wading...he took a picture to prove he did touch the freezing water.

Update #2

I keep putting off updating my blog because I want to put pictures up, but the only time I ever get to update my blog is when I'm at work where I don't have access to my pictures. :) So instead here's just another update.
School may kill me. I didn't think spending just 3 days out of the week in a classroom would wear me out, but apparently I'm just a wuss. However, to my credit it is a classroom of 25 second graders and I have spent the past few years mentally preparing for older grades. I'm a much bigger fan of dealing with attitude than dealing with running noses. However, I have loved finally being in a classroom for my school instead of sitting in a class listening to people tell us what to expect. It's awesome that I get all this hands on experience. On top of those three full days I am working 20+ hours a week and 11 hours (not credits), so needless to say I'm cutting it close.
Mike is doing great. He's working hard on his classes and should get some pretty great grades if he keeps up the good work. He's wonderful to help around the house, especially considering most of my days are 11-12 hour days. Yesterday I came home from school and all our laundry was on the bed and it was CLEAN! It made me extra happy. Another thing that he has picked up on is that it makes me really happy when he walks me to work because he knows how much I hate walking by myself up to campus at 6:30 A.M. He's gotten up and walked with me a few times and it definitely makes my day! What a sweet hubby!
That's pretty much all from us - I'm working 8 hours tomorrow so maybe I can bring a few pictures on my flash drive and get them up. I'll do my best.

Update

Ok, so it's been a while - sorry! Things have been crazy with trying to get all our summer fun crammed into two weeks and then starting school. But we've almost made it through the first two days of the semester so hopefully we can survive the rest.
So here's the update... we got two blissful weeks without any homework! We went to Bear Lake, spent time with family a few times, and just enjoyed being together without too much stress from school. Now we're back in the thick of things.
Yesterday (the first day of school) was a little intense because I went from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. without a break, but I better get used to it because it's definitely not going to be the last time. :) Mike's day went great yesterday until he started feeling a little under the weather, but he's getting back to normal today and hopefully will be fine tomorrow (we both still have no idea what caused this, but hope it leaves soon!)
Today I started my new second job working as a student office assistant in the administration dept. of the library that I've worked at for the past 2 years. My job basically entails running errands, answering the phone, and doing what people ask me to do. It's kind of cool though because the administration office is the Dean's office so I do work for him sometimes too. It's just an addition 5-6 hours on top of my regular library job, but I get paid better and get to do homework most of the time. We feel really blessed to have had this job, which basically fall into my lap. It was definitely an answer to prayers!
We now have family living very close by! Justin (my bro) and Cade (my cousin) are now living just five blocks away from us and it's fun to have them around! Cade even works at my same job in the library! It's great to see them often and feed them often.

Best Cousins

Wow! It's been a while - sorry.
Well, we are off on our last big vacation for the summer - St. George! I can't wait, but first I wanted to share something about our previous vacation. We went to the tiny town of Monroe, UT, where my dad grew up, for the 24th of July. We had a blast visiting with friends and family, going to the parade, lighting fireworks, and sitting on the porch enjoying the small town life. Sadly, Mike spent the majority of time writing his paper for his online English class and everyone really missed not having him around as much as usual - especially me.
However, my favorite part of the whole weekend was watching my cute 5 year old sister Whitney and our cousin Keller, who is the same age, play. They spent every waking (and sleeping) moment together and never had one fight or disagreement!

On Saturday, my mom and I were sitting on the porch talking and watching them play. I heard Keller say "Whitney, we're best cousins huh? And I don't even know why?" How cute it that?

The best part of this cousin friendship is that one morning we woke up and found this...

Isn't that so cute? They had fallen asleep on my grandma's love-seat couch together and nobody knew until the next morning. We have a tradition that all the grand kids sleeping in the living room together during family get togethers, but I am pretty sure they started out the night in separate beds.
I hope they always stay just as good of friends as they are now, but I guess the sleeping together will probably have to end soon. :)

Look at our newest bathroom decoration!

This is our latest addition to the decor in our teeny bathroom. My sweet husband slapped it up on the wall after a Sam's Club run for pineapple and various other pizza toppings and said "Look, now it's like a tropical island in here!" Aw, just what I wanted! A tropical island bathroom, my dream come true.
Needless to say, it will probably stay in our bathroom til we move sometime next year. So, if there's anyone out there that has a great need for a tropical bathroom experience, you know where to find it. Goodness, I love him!

Boring Posts...

Ok, so apparently I have to apologize about how boring our blog has been lately. My mom and my sister were making fun of me and saying that if the only thing I had to blog about was roast (see previous post) that we needed some serious excitement in our life, and I whole heartedly agree! We honestly haven't had anything to write about. Literally the only thing we have done the past two weeks are work and homework. We haven't had time to do anything fun. I've worked about 45 hours a week for the past two and a half weeks. Mike has done that much in homework and work combined and then some. We apologize for being boring, but we are going on our first of two vacations before school starts next month, so hopefully we can have something fun and exciting to write about soon!
p.s. Yes, I know this post is just as boring as my other posts, but I wanted to explain myself. :)

I cooked a roast!

I know that it's no amazing feat to cook a roast - you just put it in the crock pot and a few hours you have a delicious roast! But I've never cooked a roast before, so it was a significant moment for me. :) It made me feel all wifey (not a real word) and like I'm finally getting to be grown up and be just like my mom! I've waited all my life for that! Anyway, here's a proud picture of me and my roast (in all honesty it was a tad bit dry, but nothing that gravy can't cure) and also a picture of my cute husband anxious to eat his Sunday dinner.

Well this week has been great! (not really...)
We came home for our weekend reunion to find that it was time to buy all new food! (a.k.a. our fridge had gone out and all of our food was spoiled - two gallons of chunky milk and really gross meat...not good)
We got to come up with some interesting meals to eat for a few days! (It took two and a half days to finally get our new fridge to us. Yay for keeping milk in our cooler and eating cold cereal for most meals.)
We got our new fridge yesterday morning! (Neither of us were home when they came the first time, so they had to come back, we almost had to wait another day.)
We got to make sure our apartment was extra clean for our new fridge! (When the fridge mover guys took our old fridge they dragged it across our carpet and it was still dripping all the gross melted food from it - Mike had the pleasure of cleaning up that mess because I still wasn't home.)
Our new fridge apparently wants us to get the apartment a little more clean! (Last night Mike opened the fridge and one of the shelf's snapped off and a bunch of stuff fell out, including a can of 7-UP which proceeded to spray EVERYWHERE!)
I started a new job this week. (It's basically going to be torture, but I just keep telling myself it's only for two months.)
We are learning how to share our lives more everyday! (Mike's key to the apartment fell off his key ring sometime Sunday, so we are a one key family. We became quite concerned when we learned it takes under 15 seconds to break into our apartment.)
We get to serve our ward by doing the monthly newsletter! (Ok this really is a positive thing, but we have to get it done and printed today before we leave town, we haven't even started on it, and we both work all day.)
We are learning a lot of details about health insurance. (We've been trying to get real health insurance for almost two months and they are taking forever to process everything! So, we get to have lame temporary insurance that hardly does anything.)
Oh yes and one last thing. Mike made my lunch for me this morning and drove me to work! (I was supposed to be at work at 7...Mike woke me up at 7:10 (thank goodness!)...I've never accidentally slept in and missed work before. I wasn't too happy and neither was my boss.)
Fun week eh?
On the positive side we are so blessed to have health, family and all the things that we need to survive...like unspoiled food. :)

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday...

Today has been a busy Sunday! We usually get to relax, but today we have had visiting teaching and home teaching come to our home, plus we both went and did our visiting and home teaching. We haven't had much down time. However, we did get to take a little break and we decided to watch President Hinckley's funeral while we ate our dinner (Chicken enchilada's, yum!), since Mike had never seen it. I was yet again extremely moved by the life of this great man, the only prophet I can honestly say I remember. What a wonderful man and a great example! It was enjoyable for me to watch Mike see the funeral for the first time and be equally moved at the life of such an amazing prophet. We both feel blessed to have been able to watch and take part in his years as prophet of our church. I don't think there are words to describe the respect and love that I have for President Hinckley. Fun filled Friday evening...

My life sure has changed a lot since getting married. I realize that more day by day. I feel like I am in a good mood more often, have a little more time on my hands, cherish the time I get to spend with Mike even more, cook a lot more, always feel safe, do dishes a lot more, and worry about money a lot more. Tonight is Friday night, before we were married we would usually go out and do something extra fun on Friday to shake off the weeks work. However, tonight I am sitting here, watching my husband write a paper. A paper that is due by midnight, must be 3-4 pages long, and he's on the second paragraph. At least it's just a rough draft right?

Saga of the Toaster Oven...

When we got engaged and started discussing the possibilities of where to register, Mike said that he doesn't care where we register or what we register for just as long as we got a toaster oven. After numerous times of him explaining how many things we could so easily cook with a toaster oven, such as: corn dogs, potatoes, toast (who would have thought!), most meats, and of course - pizza, I gave in. So, although we didn't get one for our wedding we decided to use our gift cards to buy one and I would have given anything to capture the look on my cute husbands face the night we set it up! However, here is a picture with him now - it's close to the actual face, but not quite. :)

Baking, Cooking, and More Baking...

I spent most of today cooking and enjoyed it thoroughly! I made 3 loaves of bread, caramel corn pops, cinnamon pull aparts, and sweetened some pickles. :) It was lots of fun! I was proud of myself so I took a picture. :)

Our First Family Homevening

We didn't do much, but it was still cool to have our first official "FHE". We actually just did some budgeting and read some Jesus the Christ. It was exciting to start that tradition!

The Whoopsie Whoppers

So, here's how it happened... about two weeks ago I wasn't working during the day very much, so I was home a lot and watched quite a few movies. I will fully admit that when I watch movies I usually have to have something to snack on. I have no idea why, but it's like a habit I just can't kick. One day I had a little box of whoppers that I was snacking on and when Mike got home I was so thrilled to have him home that I just left the candy, what was left of it (2 whoppers), on the couch. Later that evening, we sat down to our evening routine of eating dinner and watching a movie or a t.v. episode. After it was over Mike got up to head to bed and I looked down and what else do I see, but two little brown things he had been "sitting on." Needless to say, we had a real good laugh and I have some excellent pictures of the event.

We are the Mabey's! We got married on a few weeks ago and it was a most wonderful day!
First things first: I must explain the title of my blog. My husband, Mike, is 6' 11" and HE was the one who came up with the idea of "Me and My Giant." So don't think that I am rude or anything like that because I love him dearly... However, he really is tall. I don't even notice it anymore, but people at the store sure do love to stare and ask "How tall are you?" (two seconds later) "Do you play basketball?" Oh man, those two questions can get old really fast! And Mike's heard them hundreds more times than I have!
We are both students at Utah State University (Go Aggies!). I'm going into Elementary Education and Mike's major is Computer Science. We will be in Logan for one more year and then we'll pack up and move to who knows where...hopefully somewhere really warm, pretty, and with a great graduate school for Mike.
